The Future of Agriculture: Sustainable Productivity, or Doing More With Less

Twenty-first century agriculture faces big challenges, such as feeding a global population that is expected to grow to nearly 9 billion by 2050 with a falling arable land to population ratio. Droughts and floods are increasing in frequency around the globe, and farmers have to use natural resources more effectively as they play a key role in ensuring global food security. They also have to manage the environmental impact of crop production to protect these resources for future generations. In the face of these challenges, the future of agriculture is in using farming practices and modern technology to increase crop production efficiency and more importantly, to do it in a sustainable way – to do more with less.
